For a mailed disposition request, the Supreme Court instructions specify a $10 certified check or money order plus those identifiers, addressed to CAP Unit, 100 Centre Street, Room 1001, New York, NY 10013. Confirm any required return-delivery materials with the office. The published instructions do not promise a universal completion time, so ask about a deadline before mailing.
NYC Criminal Court: bring the docket details and exact fee
The NYC Criminal Court FAQ directs requests to the central clerk in the county where the case was filed. Bring the docket number, or the defendant’s full name and birth date, or the arrest date, along with picture identification and $10 in exact change. For a Manhattan filing, make sure the request goes to the Criminal Court clerk rather than automatically using the Supreme Court CAP mailing route.
If the case number is unknown, gather any arrest paperwork or previous court notice and ask the clerk which identifier is sufficient to locate that proceeding. State exactly what needs to be supplied: a disposition certificate, an ordinary filing copy, or a transcript. Before requesting several cases, check the identifying details and the recipient’s requirements for each one.
Sealed records require the right authorization
A defendant requesting a sealed Supreme Court case disposition must bring picture ID. A person acting for the defendant must provide a notarized permission letter from that defendant; the Criminal Court FAQ likewise requires notarized permission for another defendant’s sealed case. General guidance says the defendant may also be asked for a notarized statement. Ask the particular clerk about its form before submitting.
If the certificate and another record disagree, retain the certificate, case number, and conflicting entry and ask the issuing clerk to review the specific discrepancy. Do not infer that a missing WebCrims result clears a record or that a pending allegation establishes guilt. Use the filed outcome, preserving any remaining identity or access uncertainty.
